On my first consultation I was told about four different procedures I would possibly have to have with surgery being the one HE thought I would have to have. I had the orthocentesis done (of which I paid cash for since BCBS doesn't cover TMJ) and that didn't do anything so I made an appointment to see what the next step was. He told my mom and I that since I had a spinal cord stimulator he could do surgery because he would have to use cautery and it involves electricity. It's not a pace maker it turns off.. Then no more electricity until you turn it back on. My doctor called him because he was confused as to why this was the reason he wouldn't perform surgery. Dr Curtis Bowman told him I wasn't a surgical candidate and referred me to other dentists. My jaw slips and won't close, I've lost 25 pounds (putting me at 102), it clicks loud enough when I eat that my husband can heat it at the dinner table and I'm in pain when I talk... And I'm now not a surgical candidate? Lastly he told me I would have to just eat foods that didn't involve chewing.. I'm 37.. Really? Save your money and find a real maxiofacial surgeon. One that will tell you the truth or at least refer you to another maxiofacial surgeon that will.
